A Bit About Me
Emma Dorfman is an American playwright, content curator, and storyteller hailing from Houston, Texas. After nearly a decade of acting training, including four years at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, she pivoted to roles in the areas of writing, dramaturgy, and academia. Her dissertation whilst at NYU, ‘Apart, Together: Networked Spectatorship in a Virulent Age’, earned both the Bevya Rosten Memorial Award and Honours in Theatre Studies. During the Pandemic and her time as a MA student for Goldsmiths’ Dramaturgy Writing and Performance Programme, she worked with New York-based Life Jacket Theatre Company as their Resident Dramaturg during the 4 year-long development process for ‘The Gorgeous Nothings’. As a writer and dramaturg, Emma is interested in taking hidden perspectives and blowing them up as big as possible. As an artist, generally speaking, she is driven by the need to preserve history and all of its tiniest, most missable bits and pieces. The worst thing a story can be is lost, and through careful writing and intensive research, she infuses new vitality into these narratives. Adding surrealist, absurdist, and comedic elements to this mix allows for a balance between extremely serious- and at times, uncomfortable- themes against the unignorable absurdity of everyday life.
